Deaths needing proper citation[edit]
Via thorough browsing of the 2024 deaths category, I’ve found the following are marked as deceased and needing of proper citation. Rusted AutoParts 13:19, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- February 6 2023 - Jim Price, 78, American musician, producer and composer (forums and social media only so far)
- January 2 - Larry Sherrer, 74, American football player (Montreal Alouettes, BC Lions) and ophthalmologist
- January 22 - János Toldi, 96, Hungarian Olympic sprint canoer
- January 25 - Rick France, 85, British speedway rider. (Death sourced on his page by Facebook)
- March - Tommy Duncan, 87, Scottish footballer (Death sourced on his page by Twitter)
- April - Danny O'Donnell, 85, Scottish footballer (Brentford, Brechin City, Tonbridge)
- April 14 - Blackie Wangerin, 89, American racecar driver
- May 22 - Vic White, 92, English motorcycle speedway rider (Death sourced on his page by Twitter)
- @Rusted AutoParts:, any objection to us adding Vic White using this tweet from the World Speedway Riders' Association? The account is verifiably theirs given that it is linked at the bottom of the home page on their website, thus passes Wiki guidelines on using Twitter/X as a source. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 09:48, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- Per WP:TWITTER, Twitter (X) is only a reliable source when writing about oneself. I cannot see White writing his own death announcement. WWGB (talk) 10:04, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- Looking over this list, should Jim Price be on it at all, as even his article doesn't indicate he's dead? A brief search doesn't turn up anything to confirm that he is either 2A02:8012:227B:0:18DE:830D:C096:71A (talk) 13:03, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- The person who added his name here indicated his death was stated via forums and social media. In my opinion it's okay to leave him here given that. Unless something comes up in those areas saying the announcement was wrong or something. That's the purpose of this thread, to catalogue deaths needing a strong source that have been at the least verifiably deemed deceased in the means we can't utilize. Rusted AutoParts 17:38, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello all. Jim Price is supposed to have died in Pasadena in February 2023. We have a James William Price born in July 1945 living in Pasadena on TruePeopleSearch. If he died more than one year ago I think he wouldn't be on TruePeopleSearch anymore. What did you think? --Danielvis08 (talk) 22:31, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

Michael Mosley[edit]
Please do not add Michael Mosley until his body has been formally identified. WWGB (talk) 11:10, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, that is not a criteria. His death has been confirmed and reported by reliable media. Marbe166 (talk) 11:31, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- The source you provided states "a man believed to be the missing British TV presenter". The identification is down to the deputy mayor, who never met Mosley. We still have no formal identification. WWGB (talk) 11:37, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- No, it says: “He has been found in the area of Ayia Marina,” the island’s deputy mayor Nikitas Grillas told the Guardian. “I can confirm that it is him.” That is enough. It is reported by a reliable source. That is our criteria. There is not requriement for a "formal identification" for inclusion here. The requirement is that the death is reported by a reliable source. Marbe166 (talk) 11:40, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- It is my understanding that a reliable source is a piece of work, its creator or publisher.(WP:RS A "speaker" is not a reliable source. I have not seen any reliable source (publication) that categorically states Mosley is dead. WWGB (talk) 11:50, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- The speaker is not the source. The article is. Marbe166 (talk) 11:53, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- But the article only says "the body of a man believed to be the missing British TV presenter". WWGB (talk) 11:56, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- The article says what I quoted above. Marbe166 (talk) 12:02, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Until it's confirmed, it must not be stated that he's dead. "Believed to be" is not confirmed. — Amakuru (talk) 12:12, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- “I can confirm that it is him.” Is printed in the article. Here is another source: https://www.svt.se/nyheter/utrikes/en-dod-person-har-hittats-i-sokinsatsen-efter-michael-mosley. Marbe166 (talk) 12:14, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Marbe166 yes that is a quote, not a confirmation from a reliable source that he was dead. You're violating BLP policy here, and edit warring to boot. Stop it. — Amakuru (talk) 12:16, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- The article is the reliable source. We are not in a position to question the sources of news articles. The article in this case quotes the confirmation from, in this case, a government official. Until that statement is retracted, there is no reason for us not to believe it. Marbe166 (talk) 12:21, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

- See the BBC live blog. Still describing it as "a body". Until it is confirmed by the majority of reliable sources, and not just random quotes by a local mayor, then that's when we can say it on Wikipedia voice. — Amakuru (talk) 12:19, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- One source is enough, unless the sources are contradicting. BBC doesn't say that the body is not him. Marbe166 (talk) 12:23, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- His WIFE says it is him. What else do you need? Bryan Krippner (talk) 13:24, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah that's fine, now we can include him reliable sources are now confirming it on that basis. But previously we were not certain and BLP demands that we err on the side of caution. — Amakuru (talk) 13:35, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- His wife's comment has been out for at least 5 hours. Bryan Krippner (talk) 13:47, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

As far as I can see, this section is now resolved. Ref (chew)(do) 19:29, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

Add the following to obituarys on 8th June 2024:
Charlie Lennon, Irish musician, composer and nuclear physicist, 85. 80.111.14.99 (talk) 12:06, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
Might there be a stronger source for Ewald Frank's death? I don't feel comfortable using one so nebulous in the subject article. Stefen Towers among the rest! Gab • Gruntwerk 18:45, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- I've seen worse. Countless articles use the frowned-upon social media sites Facebook and Twitter/X as sources almost as a matter of course, where they should not. At least the "nebulous source" is not social media. (I can't find any others myself at the moment.) Ref (chew)(do) 19:41, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- The source doesn't show the whole name or a picture. I can't tell they are exactly referring to Ewald Frank. At any rate, I'm not signing my name with use of that source in the article. Stefen Towers among the rest! Gab • Gruntwerk 19:55, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
